Gottwald for Apadana

Gottwald for Apadana is our newest collection created by Manhattan interior and product designer Laura Gottwald. It is inspired by early 20th century sensibilities through the 1960s.

In a market saturated with painterly, textured rugs, Laura Gottwald yearned for something different — a vibrant fusion of 1920s - 60s nostalgia and modern design sensibilities.

Growing up in the modernist home of her graphic designer parents, Gottwald drew inspiration from a rich artistic heritage that included early Warhol, Push Pin Studios, Serendipity 3, the Wiener Werkstatte, the Bauhaus and Art Deco. Influenced by her lifelong fascination with color systems, she crafted a collection that goes beyond aesthetics, delving into the psychological impact of geometric patterns on human experience.

Gottwald believes that geometric foundations offer an unconscious sense of wholeness and grounding. The rug collection, made from Persian virgin wool and hand-tufted in India by master artisans, features six original designs in a total of thirty-four colorways. All the rugs' edges are contoured. This softens the transition from carpeted area to floor - an organic and great look!

As an interior designer, Gottwald recognizes the transformative power of a great rug in a room. She considers rugs "fuzzy art," emphasizing their role in shaping the ambiance of a space. The Laura Gottwald for Apadana collection aims to inspire, intrigue, and breathe a long-awaited breath of fresh air into the world of interior design. With its unique patterns and vivid color combinations, these rugs invite individuals to reimagine their living spaces from the floor up, adding a touch of charm and playfulness to every room.
